Teaching in sport science

We offer our students a high-quality education that prepares them in a way for the requirements of the labour market. Following the principle of research-based learning, they acquire solid knowledge and practise to apply their knowledge to find solutions.

Understand and convey

Sport Science in Bochum is characterized by its special focus: Based on theoretical education, students learn to teach practical sports content in praxis. In sport-motor self-realization, they gain a deeper understanding of motor learning and mediation processes - both in terms of physiological and anatomical, movement and training science, sport psychology and didactic-methodical basics as well as pedagogical directions of meaning.

Mental health and resilience are essential requirements for maximum physical performance. Education in the field of sport psychology examines this connection.

Movement science has many facets. In teaching, the basics are taught and it is explained how motor learning functions and movement is controlled. Students need this knowledge for biomechanical measurements and their own research projects.

How do I plan my own study? Which aspects are important to keep in mind when collecting data? The eHealth and Sports Analytics teaching and research area oversees the methodology training at the Faculty of Sport Science as well as the lectures on digitisation in sport.

From badminton to sailboarding: In modules 2 to 4 (B.A. and B.Sc.) and 9 ("courses with specialisation" in the B.Sc.), students acquire and improve their knowledge of the practical, theoretical and didactic-methodological foundations of sport in a wide variety of sports and exercise fields.

We bring the athletic field into the lecture hall and the seminar into a sweat. Innovative athletic training, training-accompanying interventions, as well as training in childhood and with the older age groups are covered through praxis. Our teaching follows our own textbook "Training Science for Sports Practice".

The courses offered by this department highlight the potential of movement, game and sport in school and extracurricular fields of practice with regard to diversity, justice, equal opportunities and empowerment. They follow the principle of research-based learning.

In seminars and lectures, this teaching and research area prepares students to take on management tasks in sports organisations of different types

Movement culture and sport are cultural and social phenomena shaped by human hands, which are reflected upon by sports history and sports sociology within the framework of sports science.
